The conference includes an introductory session and six sessions focused on many key issues. A poster session will also be organized.
  1. The opening session includes reports on the main themes: the origins and evolution of worldwide organic agriculture; production of organic rice; current international and European scene.
  2. Innovative techniques of organic rice production to the scale of cultivated fields.

Session 1. SWOT analysis of organic agriculture in Europe and in the world.

Points of strength and weakness, organic agriculture opportunities.

Session 2. Organic Rice: cropping systems and business

The production of organic rice, to the scale of systems for cultivation or cultivated fields, is facing some problems related to the management of wild species and stress of biotic origin, such as fungi and insects. In the course of this session, the results of experiments carried out at research centers or real rice-growing companies will be presented and discussed.
Around the world there are many types of businesses involved in the production of organic rice, differentiated by size of company, type of occupancy, number of activities and relations with the markets. The various testimonies from different contexts will formulate a rich and stimulating picture, useful for agrarian companies to address future challenges.

Session 3. The organic production systems within branches of marketing and consumption. The territories and markets of Organic Rice

The organic rice companies occupy an important role in the formation and maintenance of agro-nutritional branches at a local level and beyond. This session will describe the different experiences and try to outline the possible development in the light of European and national policies.

Session 4. Nutrition, health, well-being.

Foods, patterns of production and consumption, lifestyles and social relations largely determine the quality of our existence. This session will focus more attention on aspects related to the importance of good nutrition for our health, but without forgetting other important issues that affect the quality of life and sustainability.

Session 5. Biodiversity, environment, landscapes.

Biodiversity is a resource at the base of all the agro-nutritional systems; its proper utilization, exploitation, conservation and care guarantee and ensure the sustainability of the activities of agricultural companies and supply chains. The rice company also occupies an important role in territorial dynamics, management of resources, for the supply of services, for the development of the culture and identity of rural areas.

Session 6. Round Table.

The themes discussed in previous sessions will be recalled during the discussion, trying to give an overview of the state of the art and to indicate the possible innovative developments. In this session we will try to answer questions such as the following: what are the main problems facing the organic farms and possible solutions? What will be the main levers to support the organic farms? What will be the tools to improve information to the public on issues regarding organic rice cultivation? What are the prospects for innovation in organic rice?
